Photography Is Dead.

Wed Aug 8, 2007, 10:13 AM
So today, partially out of boredom, and partially because I genuinely enjoy seeing other people's work, I browsed the photography section on here.

Yeah, big mistake.

I am truly astounded at what people are trying to pass off as art. Myspace-esque photos? For fuck's sake....

I mean maybe it comes form being a photo geek for four years...or from living with a very talented photographer, but I think it's pretty fucking obvious what is well done work and what is abysmally, poorly done.

Ok, rule number 1.) if you're going to call yourself a photographer, buy a goddamn DSLR and learn how to use it. I've gotten excellent SHOTS with a point-and-shoot, but if the image quality is all shot to hell, it doesn't matter. It also doesn't matter if you have a nice camera if you use it improperly.
Oh yeah, and film is dead, sorry. I love my pentax K1000, it is my heart and soul and I've taken some of my favorite photos with it, but it is too expensive and too much of a hassle to do much of anything with these days.

rule number 2.) Unless the blur works for your photo (which I promise you, 9 times out of 10 it DOESN'T), don't post fucking blurry photos with semi-artistic sounding names. It's fucking weak.

rule number 3.) Photoshop is your friend. Learn how to use it and use it, don't just throw a filter on it.

Raaawwrrrrr.
